We hosted our second clean up ay at the Oakland Tech library with the help of Friends of Oakland Public School Libraries (FOPSL)! Thanks to everyone for their amazing effort! We made a tremendous amount of progress today. There's much more to be done, but the library looks clean(er), more organized, and there are old and NEW books almost ready to check out!
One way you can support libraries in Oakland public schools is to sign and share this petition: http://www.saveschoollibrarians.org/ousd and come to the OUSD school board meeting this Wednesday, 6 - 7 pm at La Escuelita. Just being there is a great show of support, numbers matter. Even better, speak during the public comment session to tell the school board that students need and deserve quality libraries. Student and family voices are especially important to the school board. If you can make it, let me know. Do you know someone who is available to pick up our boxes of weeded books and deliver them to the OUSD warehouse? A truck would be helpful - there are a lot of boxes! Finally, in case you missed it, here is the Oakland North story about the Oakland Tech Library: https://oaklandnorth.net/2018/03/23/oakland-technical-high-students-form-group-to-advocate-for-library-access/ Thank you for all the help! Check out this video in Oakland North about SLI and the Tech Library!
oaklandnorth.net/2018/03/23/oakland-technical-high-students-form-group-to-advocate-for-library-access/ There will be another Oakland Tech library clean up day on March 25, 9am-3pm! Come out and help clean up the library. We can use all the help we can get!
Today we helped to host a very successful clean up day in Tech's Library. We had over 60 people come out, including students, family, OUSD staff, FOPSL, and friends from neighboring schools. We deleted thousands of outdated books from the library. We also cleaned off and wiped down more than half of the bookshelves and books. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped. We are planning on hosting another clean up day soon.
